The Bellefonte Area School District provides a Student Assistance Program for students having difficulty in school.   The team has been trained to identify and refer any student who may be experiencing difficulty in a variety of areas.  The problem may be academic, social or behavioral, anything that may be hindering a student from success in school.  Teachers, guidance counselors, administrators, other students and sometimes the student themselves can make a referral to the SAP team.

SAP is...

  • an identification program

  • an intervention program

  • a referral program

SAP is NOT...

  • a counseling program

  • a treatment program

  • a discipline

The task of the Student Assistance Team is to monitor students experiencing difficulty in school.  The team gathers data for the assessment of students' needs for help and counseling.

Referrals to the SAP Team may be made by school personnel, parents and/or students.  Students who violate the District's Drug and Alcohol Policy will automatically be referred to the SAP Team.

As a result of screening, students may be referred to in-school supports, social work, or professional counseling.

All information concerning students who are referred to the program will remain CONFIDENTIAL.
