About BAMS
The Bellefonte Area Middle School was built in 1962 with the latest renovation to the school being conducted in 1999. The school is situated in historical Bellefonte. It is surrounded by beautiful mountains and enjoys a large outdoor area for intramural and interscholastic activities as well as community-sponsored events.
The Middle School Offers:
Grades 6-8 with smaller academic teams operating at each grade level.
A full range of special education services; including gifted education.
Fine Arts electives: band, chorus, and orchestra.
A variety of activities and clubs: chain reaction club, art club, yearbook club, drama club, student council, and snow sports.
Programs and activities to promote a safe and positive school climate and culture such as:

GRADE 6
In sixth grade, there are two academic teams with 4 core teachers on each team (Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Math). These teams meet regularly to collaborate on curriculum and planning for student needs. Instruction is differentiated to provide students the support they need to continue to grow academically in all subjects. All core subject classes and specials classes meet for 50 minutes. Sixth graders receive the following specials classes throughout the school year: Art, Music, Project Lead The Way, Foreign Language (Chinese and Spanish), Computer Instruction and Application, Health, and Physical Education. Intervention and enrichment courses are also provided for students.
GRADE 7
In seventh grade, there are two academic teams with 4 core teachers on each team (Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Math). These teams meet regularly to collaborate on curriculum and planning for student needs. At this grade, Advanced Language Arts and Advanced Math are available for students who meet established criteria. Core classes and specials classes meet for approximately 50 minutes. The following specials classes are available in seventh grade: art, industrial technology/Project Lead The Way, computer applications, music, foreign language (Chinese or Spanish), and physical education. Intervention and enrichment courses are also provided for students.
GRADE 8
In eighth grade, there are two academic teams with 4 core teachers on each team (Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Math). These teams meet regularly to collaborate on curriculum and planning for student needs. At this grade, Advanced Language Arts and Algebra 1 are available for students who meet established criteria. Students can leave the middle school having completed Algebra 1. Core classes and specials classes meet for approximately 50 minutes. These specials classes are scheduled for eighth graders: art, personal finance, foreign language (Spanish or Chinese), health, physical education, and industrial technology/Project Lead The Way. Intervention and enrichment courses are also provided for students.
