Elementary Building Project

As Bellefonte Area School District looks to the future and considers its elementary building plan, KCBA architects and engineers will conduct an initial needs assessment of the four buildings to help the school board and district better decide on the best final option for the project that could include consolidation of schools, new structure, renovation of existing buildings or combination of options. In this plan, public feedback is encouraged from community members and stakeholders.

March 2024 Update
The Bellefonte Borough Council gave conditional approval for the land development phase of the new school project, and at last Tuesday night’s meeting, the School Board approved the project to go out to bid for contractors. We will begin advertising for bids this week. These are big steps in beginning the construction of the new elementary school. If our pathway continues to work out well and the project goes through the bid process during the month of March, the Board may consider selecting and approving the contractors at an April Board meeting. Permitting requests may also occur during this time frame with the hope of breaking ground sometime in May or June.

History of Elementary Building Project 2009-2020

A feasibility study was conducted in 2009 to evaluate the district's buildings. In 2011, land was purchased behind Bellefonte Area High School with the intent of building an elementary building. During the following years, an updated feasibility study was conducted and the district was presented with three options. Obstacles including the COVID-19 pandemic, increased costs, and supply chain issues prevented the project from moving forward.
