The Bellefonte Area School District Board of School Directors named Dr. Roy Rakszawski, as district superintendent at their School Board meeting on April 9, 2024.
He was selected by the Board to replace Mrs. Tammie Burnaford, who will retire at the end of the current school year. Dr. Rakszawski said, “I’m grateful for the opportunity to join the Bellefonte team. My first impressions are that the District is a very special place that emphasizes collaboration and student-centered decisions. I look forward to getting to know everyone and working together.”
Dr. Rakszawski is a Pennsylvania resident who is currently serving his 11th year as the superintendent of schools in the Edgewater Park Township School District in New Jersey. He was named as the 2021 Burlington County Superintendent of the Year. His colleagues describe him as a visionary, strategic, collaborative, student-centered leader.
Prior to his tenure as superintendent of Edgewater Park Township School District, he served as a principal and a teacher of music. He earned his Doctorate and Masters in Education degrees in School Leadership from Wilmington University.
Mr. Jon Guizar, President of the Bellefonte Area School District Board of Directors, stated, “The Board is looking forward to working with Dr. Rakszawski and appreciates the input from the various stakeholder groups that participated in the four month process.”
