Rebecca Leitzell has had a unique teaching journey within the Bellefonte Area School District. She is one of the rare educators that have experienced secondary level, elementary level, teaching in person, and teaching online (past the pandemic) - and she has done this all within BASD.
I thought it was appropriate to highlight Mrs. Leitzell and her experiences, and I appreciate the questions that she answered below about her pedagogical pathway:
How many years have you been teaching?
This is my 22nd year of teaching and my 17th year teaching at BASD.
What have been all of your job position titles?
Business Education Teacher
Cooperative Education Coordinator/Social Studies Teacher
BeLA Coordinator/BeLA Social Studies Teacher
Elementary Technology Teacher
Can you provide us a short reflection on how the path has shaped you as an educator and the insights that you have learned from it?
I have truly enjoyed all of the positions I have had throughout my career in education. Taking on new roles has challenged me to step out of my comfort zone and has encouraged me to continue to learn and expand my knowledge. Each role has given me a different perspective and has enabled me to continue to develop new approaches to foster student engagement. These changes have also allowed me to work and collaborate with so many amazing teachers that we have here at BASD! Having multiple teaching experiences has enriched my perspective on education.
Any advice that you might give someone else looking to do similar?
Change often leads to new opportunities and growth, so embrace the journey!
Thank you so much, Mrs. Leitzell! You are an invaluable employee to our district and a treasure to our students!
