Fourth and Fifth-grade students from Pleasant Gap Elementary participated in a STEM K’Nex competition hosted by Intermediate Unit 10 on March 26, 2025. These 16 students competed against teams from Moshannon Valley School Districts. There were six elementary teams and two middle school teams at the competition.
The students had to build a prototype, create an engineering design notebook, have a 2-minute presentation, and create a blueprint. They had two hours to build their prototype and then do their presentations afterward for the judges.
The students' challenge was to create a piece of equipment out of K’Nex pieces that could be used in an urban area and could help with the infrastructure. The students had to follow the steps of the engineering design process, make a blueprint, and create a presentation.
The Red Pipe Dreamers - made up of Arya Decker, Amelia Durney, Brynley Marker, and Octavia Savage-Williams - finished third in the competition out of six teams. They created a design for a vehicle that would detect and fix leaks in water pipes in an urban area.
The students, under the guidance of Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Williams, Mr. Gearhart, and Miss D'Ambrosia, worked on their designs during after-school time on Tuesdays and during some indoor recess times. Congratulations to these students and great job on all of their hard work!
