Delaney Badger, a Bellefonte Area High School student, and Mya Norfolk, a Bellefonte Area Middle School student, competed at the IEA (Interscholastic Equestrian Association) Western National Finals on June 24th & 25th, 2024 in Fort Worth, Texas. Delaney & Mya participate as community riders under the Grier School in Birmingham, PA and are coached by Chris McElyea at Eagle Valley Equestrian Center in Wingate, PA.
They had to earn enough points during the regular season to qualify for the Regional show earlier this spring where only the top 2 riders from each class and the top 2 teams advanced to the National Show. At the National Show, the top 12 riders and top 12 teams from across the United States compete. Competitors ride horses that are furnished by the show host and chosen by random draw – riders compete on unfamiliar horses. The use of personal tack is not allowed and limited schooling is permitted. This equalizes competition and tests the horsemanship skills of the competitors.
Individual Day Results:
Mya Norfolk – Reserve National Champion in Future Beginner Horsemanship Walk/Jog
Delaney Badger – 7th place in JV Novice Horsemanship
Team Day Results:
Delaney Badger – Team Rider National Champion in JV Novice Horsemanship
Delaney’s 1st place in JV Novice Horsemanship on team day helped the Grier School team win the overall National Championship for the upper school. The Grier School middle school team were overall National Champions, too.
Congratulations to Delaney & Mya on their success at IEA Western National Finals!

Mrs. Cipro’s upper level video classes completed an advertising project that involved working with downtown Bellefonte businesses. As a whole, the classes worked with 12 different businesses. Each group was assigned to one of these businesses and communicated multiple times prior to filming day to form a plan to create two versions of commercials, an Instagram/FB reel, a printed advertisement, and a radio advertisement. These products will then be shared with the businesses to use at their leisure on any of their websites and social media pages. The students did a great job with their professionalism on all communication with the pre-production and production days. Very proud of these young men and women!

Mrs. Gasper's Reading classes closed out their Olympics lesson by bringing in guest speaker, Greg Fredericks, a member of the 1980 Olympic team that boycotted the Moscow Games.
He earned his way there by finishing second in the 1980 U.S. Olympic trials. The PSU graduate had career bests of 13:34 for a 5K race and 28:03 for a 10K race.
In the 80's and 90's he coached Centre County Special Olympics and more recently, started youth cross country races in our area with the Nittany track and field/cross country programs - located out of State College.
