The Virginia Tech Engineering Professors, in conjunction with the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety out of Blacksburg Virginia, visited BAHS with a tractor trailer simulator. As part of their program, students and adults will gain a better understanding of the cautions of sharing the highways and roads with tractor trailers.
The demonstrations provide a hands-on opportunity for students and teachers to experience the vast size of a semi-truck and learn about the five key strategies for safely sharing the road with tractor-trailers and other large trucks:
Don’t hang out in the no-zone.
Don’t cut trucks off.
Maintain a safe following distance.
Properly pass a truck.
Don’t get squeezed.
