Delaina Burris is an art senior at Bellefonte Area High School and is planning to continue to study art after graduation. She currently is working on a very cool project with her art teacher, Mrs. Erin Welsh. Delaina and her friends have been creating their own mosaic since the beginning of the school year and have just recently grouted it for completion!
Delaina had this to say about the project:
“To make the mosaic, I first made a rough draft of the design on paper and then transferred it to a wood board. I then spent three months gluing down the glass and ceramic pieces of all different shapes, colors, and textures. Once that was complete, grout was put onto the artwork to cement all the pieces into place. Last, I had to clean it to ensure it was shiny.
This was a hard project! I had to sacrifice a lot of energy outside of school. I do co-op and am only in school for classes for part of the day. It was time-consuming and back-breaking (literally!), but I'm very happy with the result. The mosaic will be a part of my portfolio for art school applications.
I do want to give a huge thank you to Mrs. Welsh, my friends, and my family for helping me throughout this project.”
A very fun and complex project, Delaina! Thank you for sharing your work and talent with us!
